I did a giveaway for the Clarisse Prom Dress 9031 ($239) a few months ago and I fell in love with then. Therefore, I just had to ask to do a review on this remarkable dress in the same style since no other dress would do. This is the dress that I wore to my brother's wedding. It features a heart-shaped glittered sequins neckline, gathered empire sash, and multi layers of tulle with curled bottom to give a "puffy" effect. I donned it up with the "Audrey" Headband ($17) from Academy J, a gold clutch (found at a flea market), a gold Apple Bottoms bracelet (ordered at Apple Bottoms), and the Sizzle by Coloriffics Coronado Heels in Gold ($60) from ShoesGotSole.com. Next time, I'll wear the Southampton Necklace ($250) from Amrita Singh instead of the headband so I will not overplay this beautiful dress. As you can tell, I had a lot of fun accessorizing! The only downside is that I'm not endowed enough in the bust area, but I didn't have any time to get the dress altered in time for the wedding. I wore a padded strapless bra to make it look less noticeable. Otherwise, the dress is true to size. This dress is so beautiful that I wouldn't mind ordering the one in Turquoise or any other color for that matter!

Here is a picture taken of me (and my parents) at my brother's wedding.

Somnio Running Shoes Review

Friday, August 27, 2010

If you're a runner, customized running shoes might be ideal for you if you experience any kind of discomfort in your knees or feet. Poorly fitting running shoes or inadequate foot cushioning are often the culprit behind the discomfort. Customized running shoes from companies such as Somnio can also help alleviate symptoms due to anatomical abnormalities; such as unequal foot, spinal curvature, or limb size. However, it is always recommended to find out the underlying problem before shopping for customized running shoes.

I received a pair of Self Control running shoes ($160) from Somnio. This particular style is stable and cushioned. It is designed for a runner with low to medium arches and moderate to severe pronation. Exuding class and style, these are without question the most comfortable running shoes I have ever I owned. They are weightless, which makes them great for long runs!

I had them customized for my feet by using their Build My Shoe tab featured on their site. A video will come up that you can play and learn how to fit yourself. If you’re on trails a lot, they suggest trying the Westridge ($130) but if you’re more prone to running on the roads, they suggest the Pacemaker ($135). While the online tool is easy to use, it is recommended that you go to a retail dealer in your area to be even more properly fitted. I was unable do this since I don't have one in my area.

Functionally Engineered Adaptable Tricomponent System

- Interchangeable footbeds for a custom fit based on the runner’s arch height, providing more support and comfort.

- IndX cushioning inserts for long-lasting cushioning and customization based on weight and preferred running surface.

- Tunable Varus angulation for addressing each runner’s particular biomechanical needs – like having a custom orthotic made specifically for your shoe.

- Micro 2 Step dual density midsole for pronation control.

- ACT midfoot bridge provides extra support and gait alignment during the transition from heel to forefoot.

- Road Block tread rubber compound for durability.

- Stretch Mesh forefoot material allows the shoe to move with the foot and accommodates a wide variety of foot types.

- Lace Keeper keeps laces in place and tied.

Optimum Pants from Elizabeth's Store Review

Sunday, August 22, 2010

The Elizabeth's Store was founded in 2008, but actually got its start more than 12 years ago. It all began in New York City, when two aspiring actresses Eli, and Beth (Eli's business partner and best friend), met on the set of “Cosby”. No, not that Cosby Show...Bill did a second, let’s just say, slightly less popular show which was filmed in NYC.

Being actresses in NYC, you run around a lot (auditions, the gym, interviews for jobs that will actually pay the rent, dates, etc.), and let’s face it, they love New York, but it can be a bit dirty. Plus, who has time to change between appointments. So, you find you are always on the look-out for the perfect pair of black pants, you know something that goes with everything, are easy to care for, and won’t break the budget, but which ensures you are “camera ready” at all times.

Fast forward to today, Beth is still a jet setter and an entrepreneur whom you are equally likely to run into at a Hollywood party, a Georgetown Business Association meeting, or engaging in her favorite pastime shopping in the cutest boutiques. Eli is married with three kids and you will most likely see her in the grocery store, at the playground, or on a date night with her husband. But despite their different lifestyles, they are still best friends. And now they’re also business partners because they have finally found the perfect pant.

So follow them as they introduce them to the world. They can promise you that, if nothing else, it won't be boring and you WILL have a pair of the most amazing pants at an affordable price.

The Optimum Pants ($34.95) from Elizabeth's Store are simplistic in design, but are chic and comfortable enough to wear to the gym, a date, out and about or to lounge around at home. The pants are available in basic black, which enables you to wear just about anything with it. Plus, the black also makes you look leaner and taller if stand at an average height. I'm 5'3" and a half and these pants call for shoes that have a heel so the bottom of the pants will not go through wear and tear. I don't mind this at all since I love wearing heels, especially with pants! The pants run a bit small. Therefore, I suggest going up another size to ensure comfort and a great fit. They feature an eye-catching, attractive, and couture-like logo on the front, but it will not downplay or overplay your outfit.

The Optimum Pants were made to follow the contours of your body, while highlighting your best features. Designed to look 5 pounds lighter, you can be assured that you will be looking your best with these pants! It raises your rear, slims your waistline, and smoothes your figure.

Elizabeth's Store doesn't just offer pants to help you look your best, but they also offer tops for women....and men to look their best as well! The Men's Fitted Tee Shirt ($24.99) and Ladie's Cap Sleeve Tee Shirt ($24.99) are great for the hot and humid weather that we're experiencing now! The Light Weight Long Sleeve Thermal ($34.99) would be great for cooler weather that is around the corner.

Soho Hearts Review

Friday, August 20, 2010

Amsterdam native, Juliette Booker offers you a superb selection of stunning jewelry designs.

Juliette's company, Soho Hearts, presents a dazzling collection of luxurious, stylish and trendy jewelry in an abundance of color, texture and reflective beauty.

The collection conveys not only Juliette's gifted eye for bold and subtle statements through the artistry of fine craftsmanship. It also serves as a very personal example of the heart and soul that nourishes her passion.

The Black Feather Hair Ribbon Handmade Headband ($89.95) was specifically made for the bon vivant fashionista that doesn't mind being perceived as anything but ordinary. While there are dozens and dozens of feather headbands flocking the market now, this feather headband beautifully soars amongst the crowd with the black and gold bird detail. The bird is graciously adorned with the crystal beads and black sequins. The diameter of the hairband is 4.7 inches.

I also received the Emaille Bracelet ($21.95) in Aqua and Tangerine, which isn't listed on their site yet. While these bracelets look good alone, you can get a beautiful Moroccan inspired look going by wearing both bracelets together. Both bracelets feature crystal rhinestones and a gold colored embellishments. The diameter of each bracelet is 2.4 inches.

Headband Skull Pink $49.95

Hinged Emaille Bracelet $44.95

muichic Review

Thursday, August 19, 2010

muichic (moo·ee·sheek) is deliciously natural, sustainable and organic jewelry designed & handmade in Colombia.

Tagua is their raw material. All of their pieces are made by hand from "tagua nut". The tagua nut, a botanical alternative to ivory (vegetable ivory), is a seed that comes from the ivory-nut palm or tagua palm which grows in the humid tropical forest of South America. Its use stimulates the local economies in the region providing an alternative to cutting down rain forests for farming.

Unique accessories that are environmentally friendly and gracefully chic make up their natural bijoux collection - bold, playful and colorful goodness for your body. All of their pieces come in different colors and like snowflakes they all differ from one another. Each tagua nut has its own distinctive grain and shape which gives a remarkably uncommon quality to each piece of jewelry

I received the Tagua Necklace in Natural ($28). The necklace is simplistic in design, but has enough attitude to stand out amongst the crowd. It features an ultra thin stainless steel wire that wraps around the neck and a single whole nut hanging. Wallflowers should steer clear from this necklace if they don't want all eyes on them. An introduction is unnecessary for a woman that is brave enough to wear this necklace. Opt for the Turquoise or Black if you want to make a bolder statement.

BB Becker Review

Sunday, August 08, 2010

BB Becker developed an early fascination with ancient cultures and a love of art while attending City As School, an alternative high school program in New York City for promising, disadvantaged youth. In addition to traditional classes at local colleges, the curriculum offered unorthodox educational opportunities.

BB’s first course in sculpture instilled a fondness for organic materials and the beauty of classic lines. Numerous internships at public agencies including the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the New York Public Library created his desire to travel for more than a decade visiting the great museums of the world and many ancient sites. As BB studied the repeating themes of antiquities and hieroglyphic scripts he developed an appreciation for the efforts of humanity over the ages to communicate through words and images chiseled on hard surfaces. His observations led him to believe that the great faith traditions share a universal oneness and that humankind has a compelling need to leave a permanent record of its belief system.

The first step in design for BB is the gathering of quotations that offer inspiration, comfort, or wisdom. Next, BB’s wife, Josephine, writes the quote and he carries it in his pocket, close enough to ponder until he has created the design that will be its resting place. Each piece illustrates his devotion to quality workmanship, long-lasting beauty, and the power of words.

BB Becker lives and works in beautiful Colorado where he continues to teach Tai Chi, ride his bike, and collect vintage watches.

I chose the "The Greatest" Sterling Silver Dual Ring ($158) since it has one of my favorite biblical scriptures engraved on it:

These three remain: Faith, Hope and Love. But the greatest of these is Love.

1st Corinthians

I've already received several compliments on my ring, even from male friends. The ring is beautifully engraved in his wife's elegant and distinctive handwriting to add a personal touch rather than in block letters or a regimented font. It is simplistic in design, yet bold enough to make a unforgettable, fashionable and inspiring statement. I wouldn't dream of taking it off, because I love the ring and the meaning behind it. It is the kind of piece that I will treasure for years to come. You will admire this ring even if you're not a Christian, because I believe that this profound and uplifting scripture can benefit us all.

Flora Review

Thursday, August 05, 2010

Flora was born out of a love of the natural world. Taking inspiration from the spider web and the dew drop they seek out things that spark a bit of awe and mystery, of joy and delight.

They bring together gorgeous goods made from or inspired by the natural world for you to peruse in a warm environment. Their hand selected gifts range from botanical scents, candles, cards, home décor, jewelry, local art, personal accessories, soap and tea as well as balms, lotions and potions made in-house With the vision of bringing to the store only what they would give or receive (and they’re picky) trust us when we say “it’s lovely”.

We were sent the lovely Favor Crescent Earrings, 14 Karat Gold Filled with Clear Quartz Stone ($55). A single length of wire is formed into an almond shape and hammered to have a flared sliver of reflective metal. From the bottom hangs a dense cluster of tiny faceted stones. These earrings hang at one and a half inches.

The unique shaped earrings are sophisticated and fashion forward. You can make a dramatic entry to a party or wedding with this classy piece of statement jewelry. They are one of the pairs that we have packed to take on our up-coming trip.
