Fashion is Art and Art is Fashion

I believe if it weren't for art, fashion wouldn't exist since art has inspired many esteemed fashion designers, such as Gianni Versace, Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Yves Saint Laurent, Elsa Schiaparelli, to name a selective few out of a varied bunch. Elsa Schiaparelli, an Italian fashion designer, was influenced by surrealist artist, Salvador DalĂ, because her designs were just as flamboyant and eccentric as his art pieces. An artist in a different form, Lady Gaga is the Elsa Schiaparelli of our day, because her fashion choices often leaves us speechless. Like Elsa Schiaparelli, she loves to shock us, making us wonder what she is going think of next. I can easily see her wearing the Skeleton Dress, which was designed by Schiaparelli in 1938.

Rodarte, a haute couture line introduced by two sisters in 2005, paid homage to the mentally unbalanced, wildly eccentric, yet undeniably skillful, Van Gogh, with their ethereal Spring 2012 collection. The collection entailed beautiful hues of yellows, blues, and wondrously painted flowers, which was very reminiscent of one of his most famous pieces, the Starry Starry Night. It was one of the most influential, creative, and talked about collections!

Art and fashion go hand in hand. One wouldn't survive without the other. Both can bring out the best in each other if done right.
