With a cutting edge style that combines both tailoring and draping to make silhouettes appear strong and beautiful, Althea Harper is one of the breakthrough fashion designers in today’s industry. Althea’s designs have won the attention of many people, including passionate Project Runway fans and the entertainment industry’s most respected personalities. The Kardashians are all regularly featured in ALTHEA HARPER as well as Angela Simmons. Heidi Klum, Eva Longoria, and Kerry Washington have also expressed a strong interest in her designs.

Winter & Holiday Style Tips from Althea Harper

· Forget ancient fashion rules. It’s okay to wear white in the winter. In fact, this season head-to- toe white is on trend. However, if you are planning to take on this daring style advice, make sure that your white clothing is clean with no spots and wrinkle-free. I like to use the Pro Iron Steam Station from Rowenta, because it has the steam capabilities for a delicate white silk gown and precision ironing for pleated trousers. If you don’t feel 100% comfortable in all white, opt for a champagne color.

· Mixing textures is a winter alternative to the summer/fall mixing of patterns. A beautiful and classic mix is leather and lace, but you can get a little more creative and mix feathers and knits! Or jacquard and tweed!

· The 50’s have made its way back into fashion and the most flattering silhouette is the nipped in waist with the large circle skirt. A way to make this look work for a holiday party without purchasing a new dress is to pair a full skirt with a bold colored silk top. Add some gold chunky bracelets to keep the look modern and fun.

· Peplum is still popular this season. You can find it on skirts, tops, dresses and even high-waist pants. It gives a dramatic flare to a regular LBD (little black dress). You can give a holiday look a little extra flare by finding a brocade peplum dress. The fabric not only gives the dress a very luxurious look but the medium weight fabric allows for a voluminous, beautiful peplum. Upkeep of this fabric is surprisingly easy with a Rowenta Steamforce iron. It allows you to iron out any wrinkles and then flounce out the peplum with a strong burst of steam.

· In a rush and want to look fashionable for holiday party? A good ‘go-to’ item is an oversized blouse or tunic paired with comfortable black leggings and a pair of black pumps. In fact, sophisticated sportswear, such as great leggings and turtlenecks, can stand-alone or be worn as layering pieces.

· Don’t limit yourself to grays and blacks during the winter months. Bold colors are a trend this season, which can add a pop of color. If you are not ready to give up your winter neutrals, opt for brightly colored accessories.

Do You Speak Shoe Lover: Style and Stories from Inside DSW #DSWShoeHookup

Disclosure: This book was provided to the reviewer. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author and are not indicative of the opinions or positions of DSW.

My love affair with shoes began at an early age. Shoes exude and provoke confidence, allure, style, and femininity. Marilyn Monroe said it best: "Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world." I also like what Christian Louboutin had to say about shoes: "There is an element of seduction in shoes that doesn't exist for men. A woman can be sexy, charming, witty or shy with her shoes."

Linda Meadow, author of City Baby L.A. and founder of Guru Mommy, also help pen the ultimate book for shoe lovers! Do You Speak Shoe Lover: Style and Stories from Inside DSW includes shoe advice, including for the working girl, picking the perfect date night shoes, or style on the budget, such as signing up for DSW's free rewards program - every time you shop at their store, you reap benefits!

Although this book entails 225 pages, it is jam-packed enough with enough information to satiate all shoe lovers, whether they're male or female. One of my favorite parts of the book is the "Fashion of the Decades" section, which covers the shoe trends between 1930s - 1980s. This book also features stories from DSW employees and customers, which adds a nice personal touch to the book.

Also, when we celebrate all these things about Lucy, we cannot forget that Lucy did it all in a fashionable fashion!

Although, she might not immediately come to mind when you think “fashion icon,” think about where your indelible association with 1950’s and polka dots comes from!

Tegan & Sara Star in Bluefly's Newest Closet Confessions Video

Monday, September 16, 2013

Indie rock stars, Tegan and Sara, show off their tour closet and edgy style in the latest installment of leading e-retailer Bluefly’s popular video series, Closet Confessions. The Canadian singer-songwriter sisters are known for their infectious tunes but are also widely followed for their distinctive looks. Filming from their trailer at New York’s Pier 26 in the midst of a popular tour with fellow alt-pop band, fun. they showcase a wardrobe of eclectic, ‘90s–tinged apparel for a video that’s full of street style inspiration.

The guitar-toting duo’s Closet Confessions episode launching on Bluefly’s website on September 16th, shows an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at what makes the musicians’ outfits sing on stage. “We have this whole thing: The photo will last forever, but the discomfort will last only as long as the set,” says Sara about her ensembles that include leather jackets in the heat of summer. The resulting vibe is impossibly cool, downtown style with an androgynous bent — a look that’s quickly gaining popularity both in the streets and on the runways.

“A lot of brands are tailoring their clothes to look a little more gender neutral,” Tegan enthuses. “When skinny jeans started happening [we were] stoked. High-waisted pants? Into it.” Their favorites from their collective closet include printed leggings to wear with leather jackets and oversized tees, chunky Dr. Martens and acid wash denim that harken to the ‘90s, and Miu Miu studded lime green sneakers—all components for the perfect rocker-chic closet. Luckily for everyone’s inner rocker, Tegan and Sara are also taking over Bluefly’s sister site, Belle & Clive, to curate a collection of covetable items like studded clutches and printed skinnies, so that anyone can achieve their indie darling look.

The award-winning Closet Confessions series — found at http://www.bluefly.com/closets — was launched by premiere online retailer Bluefly in April 2010 to give customers exclusive, insider looks into the personal wardrobes of fashion’s biggest and brightest. It has since gathered a strong cult following amassing more than 3 million views of the videos to date. Tegan and Sara join the ranks of contemporary style influencers and fashion-forward celebrities such as blogging sensations Leandra Medine and Erica Domesek, W Magazine’s beauty director Jane Larkworthy, Scandal star Kerry Washington, and E! News co-host Giuliana Rancic. Tegan and Sara’s video was directed by Brian Quist. Quist, a documentary filmmaker, has worked with luminaries ranging from The Dalai Lama to Natalie Portman and with global brands such as Lancôme, Michael Kors, Allure Magazine, Vanity Fair and Vogue.
