Skinny Tees Review

Skinny Tees is a collection of tanks and tops for fun, flirty and fabulous women. Started in 2009 by fashion industry veteran Linda Schlesinger, Skinny Tees was created to quell woman’s most essential need and hardest fought fight…the search for the “perfect tank!” The line began with just a handful of colors and one simple, but perfect, one-size-fits-all style. Soft, seamless and fitted, Skinny Tees shape, flatter and frame the body whether worn alone, layered, over or under clothing. With over 60 colors and over 20 different body styles including tanks, tees, tops, skirts, dresses, bandeaus, tights and active wear Skinny Tees fit any occasion.

I had the opportunity to try out an item of my choice from Skinny Tees. I opted for their Leggings in Leopard Gray ($34) and took the opportunity to wear them when I went on a recent one day escapade. They have a snug fit, but they were comfortable to wear throughout the day. I like that one size fits most, because I don't have the best of luck of finding leggings that ensure the perfect fit even though I am an average size. It's recommended that you machine or hand wash in cold water and hang dry instead of drying in the dryer. There's also no need to iron them.

Daily Deal Strategies: 8 Tips to Get More from Group-Buying Sites

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Group-buying coupons are everywhere, from the monolithic Groupon to sites that service just one or two cities. Some of the coolest coupons are for stuff you never imagined doing, like skydiving. Others offer deals on movie tickets and -- most popularly - spa services.

Groupon, which recently was heavily courted by Google, is coping with competition from Living Social, which is backed by Amazon.com. Facebook recently launched its own daily-deal program for five markets, and rebuffed Google is now going at it alone in several test markets.

With all this competition, many offers seem irresistible, but how do you know when it's truly a good deal? Here are eight ways to get the most out of your deal-of-the-day.

1. Location, Location, Location

While the larger group-buying companies have expanded into smaller cities, many deals are still offered only for metropolitan areas. Before clicking on the offer, consider whether you'll really make that long drive, particularly when taking into account the expiration date.

2. Travel Destinations

On the other hand, you don't always have to live near a deal location to use the coupon. Check out potential vouchers for places you'll visit on your next vacation. You might want to wait, however, until all your plans have been confirmed before closing the deal, but you can certainly save anywhere from 50 to 70-percent by taking advantage of such group offers for restaurants, spa services, entertainment and even museum admissions.

3. Combine Offers

Put together your own special deal by applying coupons and discounted gift cards to those deal-of-the-day vouchers.

4. Is It Really A Deal?

If you're going out of your way to patronize a new business, check their website to see if they extend any similar offers on an everyday basis. You'll also want to compare prices at businesses you prefer to regularly patronize to figure out if the deal is really worthwhile.

5. Restaurant Coupon Comparisons

A lot of coupon offers involve restaurant meals at a discount. Some require you buy two meals to receive the deal of the day. Before you buy always review the rules and restrictions of the vouchers and look for restaurant coupons on other sites and see if you can beat the offer without paying anything.

6. Figure In The Tip

Group-buying deals for services don't include the amount of money you'll spend on a tip. You'll need to tip 15 to 20 percent on the full cost of the service, not the reduced amount you paid so keep this in mind when considering purchasing the offer.

7. Plan Ahead For Presents

Some offers have extended expiration dates and would make great gifts for just about any occasion. You'll have to suit the gift to the recipient, however, free spa services or dinner in an upscale restaurant make ideal presents to just about any adult celebrating a special event.

8. Resale Value

People occasionally sell vouchers on sites like Lifesta to others for a profit once the deal is no longer available. This works well if you're the one selling, but you might want to check the original price if you're the one buying.

Bryna Giveaway

Prize: One winner will receive the Harlow Handbag in Black (a $320 value) from Bryna.

Sign the Google Spreadsheet above.

Entry Limit: Daily (this exclude bonus entries, except for tweets)

Note: You can list bonus entries separately or all in one entry - your choice!

BRYNA is a San Francisco based accessories label. Its handbags, which combine uptown sophistication with downtown originality, are currently sold through 36 stores (including a recent expansion into NORDSTROM) and 10 websites (including fashionista favorites like BLONDETTE and LUVCHARLIE). Publications including Elle, Lucky, and Daily Candy have noted BRYNA’s ability to consistently produce must-have bags for busy women who are on the go but refuse to sacrifice style, quality, or originality.

BRYNA was founded in 2006 by Bryna Nicole McMills, a former stylist and consultant. Throughout her childhood, Ms McMills demonstrated an intense dislike for stiff, fussy, and otherwise impractical clothing. Rejecting the designer jeans of the time, she retreated into her sketchbooks, which featured fashion-design flourishes that exist in her work to this day: deceptively simple and relaxed shapes; an unusually sophisticated sense of scale; a liberal use of blue, purple, tan, and brown; and a tendency to customize everything from school uniforms to wedding dresses with accessories.

BRYNA, a privately held company, plans to introduce a signature “ecochic” item by Summer 2009. This, along with enhanced sales support and other business innovations, is expected to lead a doubling of sales by the end of 2010. The company is already experimenting with shoe designs and will be launching its first fine footwear collection by the end of 2011.

The updated Harlow is perfect for the downtown girl on the go. It's big enough to hold everything you need to get you through the day, yet compact enough to go out with you after the day is done.

The giveaway will conclude June 5th.

Note: The winner will be randomly chosen through Random.org.

Winner must respond within 72 hours of notification.

Avoid Fashion Faux Pas - Wear the Right Clothes for Summer Interviews

Friday, May 20, 2011

Going for a job interview is a nerve-wracking ordeal for most people. During an interview you will not only be judged by your skills and knowledge, but also by the way you present yourself. First impressions are crucial for a potential employer. What you wear to an interview is just as important as what's on your resume.

Career coaches and veteran publicists Jessica Kleiman and Meryl Weinsaft Cooper are the authors of "Be Your Own Best Publicist: How to Use PR Techniques to Get Noticed, Hired, and Rewarded at Work" and they discuss the do's and don'ts of how to dress for a job interview.

Arriving for a job interview hot and bothered, red-faced and sweating is the last thing you want a potential employer to see. It is important to dress for a summertime job interview in a way that will keep you cool but appropriately formal.

Here are some fashion faux pas to avoid this summer while on a job interview:

1) FLIP FLOPS ARE A FLOP: While flip flops are still among the most popular summer footwear, there is never a case where they should be worn to work and certainly not to a job interview. If you're a woman who needs to walk to the interview in flip flops and change into your heels before you enter the building, that's fine but make sure you store them in your bag and are wearing appropriate shoes when you walk in the door.

2) STAVE OFF SWEAT: Whether you're sweaty from humidity or nerves, we recommend stashing some blotting papers for your face and antiperspirant in your bag to help get rid of/prevent beads of sweat from ruining your appearance. Also, you should pick fabrics that won't show sweat stains (i.e. silk or acrylic) and that breath in warm weather (i.e. cotton, linen). Always plan to arrive at least 15 mins ahead of your appointment so you can duck into the restroom before your interview to calm down and cool down.

3) GO FOR THE LAYERED LOOK: You may be coming from a 90-degree day outside to an office where the A/C is blasted at full power so you want to dress in layers to accommodate the change in temperature. Ladies: If you are wearing short sleeves or a sleeveless shell or dress, bring a blazer or cardigan to throw on when you arrive. For men who must wear a suit to an interview, try to pick one in a lightweight fabric and wear a cotton dress shirt. To avoid getting overheated, carry your jacket to the interview, then put it on when you walk in the building. This will also help cover up any perspiration stains on what you're wearing underneath.

Lilla Rose Review

Lilla Rose, Inc. offers comfortable and functional hair jewelry. Their flexi clip is available in seven different sizes. To select which size is best for you, they highly recommend reviewing the sizing and styling videos on their webpage before making a purchase. They also make beautiful beaded headbands, decorative bobby pins, O-rings, and hair sticks. In addition, they offer beaded lens lanyards, badge holders, necklaces and earrings.

I love wearing hair bows or unique hair accessories every chance I get. Therefore, I was excited to be contacted by Denise Martin, a sales representative for Lilla Rose. I opted for the Skull and Crossbones Bobby Pins ($9) and Princess Tiara Bobby Pins ($9) to review. I can honestly say that I am quite pleased with my selections, because each set is a work of art! They crafted and carefully designed each set with the strongest bases. The Skull and Crossbones Bobby Pins are edgy and fun to wear if you want to shy away from the norm and stand out. The Princess Tiara Bobby Pins are perfect for brides and wedding parties. I also adore the Stone Set Cluster ($12), Soaring Butterfly ($14), Fluttering Hummingbird ($14), and Lovely Circle Pink ($14).

De Lacy Review

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

LA based designer, Bridgette De Lacy pays homage to easy California living with a mix of soft modal dresses with asymmetrical hemlines, light-weight mesh cropped tops, and lux lace leggings. The pieces in her sophomore collection were designed for fall layering and made for a simple transition from day to night. Pair a cropped top, mesh cowl or lace vest over a dress or wear the dress as a tunic or blouse; the collection is made for mixin’ and matchin.’ De Lacy’s signature adornment, the marble halter bib, and sweet accents, lace trimmed sleeves and silk chiffon underlays, adds a special twist and subtle glamour to the season-less collection.

De Lacy’s imprints is seen in the details of her limited edition collections. From hand braiding the trim on her dresses, individually numbering the hang tags by hand so buyers can identify where the piece falls in the production run, and handpicking fabrics and trim in Downtown LA, each design has De Lacy’s personal stamp. De Lacy debuted her first collection a year ago with the belief that ‘Nothing in your closet should have an expiration date,’ staying true to this philosophy with each garment she creates. Treasuring discretion and quality over mainstream production, her pieces are classic and versatile, ideal for those that want year-long investment pieces on a reserved budget.

All her pieces are made in California, produced in a limited run. Her fall collection is now available in boutiques worlwide including Polkadots & Moonbeams, Jami Lyn on Robertson, and Anne Michelle and online through TheDeLacyCollection.com, where she takes direct orders via email.

Teamed up with jewelry designer to the stars, Michelle Roy, the two are a design pair that showcase their collections at the Social Butterflies showroom at the New Mart in Downtown LA they opened early this year. True design aficionados, together, the team preserves the lost art of design by meticulously handcrafting details to their pieces so that each has a personal touch, a rare find in the age of mass produced fashion.

The dress that I received (shown in the picture above) is not only beautiful, but it's the most unique dress I have in my closet right now. What really sets it apart is that it features a myriad of gorgeous stones on the neckline and the feather tie in the back. The length is perfect for me, because it's long enough in the back where I don't want anything showing, but shorter in the front for me to show off my gams in this warm weather. This is the kind of dress that you will not only be the talk of the party, but the talk of the town, too! "Who is she? Where is she from?" you will hear as you make your memorable entrance.

Modnique Review

Modnique.com is a boutique flash sale site. Members save 50-85% or more on hand-picked designer merchandise. Modnique sells apparel, accessories, shoes, home goods, and other premium quality brand name products at steep discounts.

Modnique recently sent me a gift certificate to buy a couple of items of my choice. This was my first time ever shopping at a sample site, because I never knew how they exactly worked before. I never bothered finding out prior to this. However, my experience wasn't bad for a first timer. I only had a few minor problems with the $50 gift certificate code, but the rep helped me figure it out. The problem was that you must order over the amount that you receive in order for it to go through. Luckily, you instantly get $5 in credit when you first sign up. So I was able to cover the difference with that. That's the only issue with the site.

I ordered the Enigma Platform Sandals ($40; Available in Pewter or Black) in Black and a pair of Kitson Zipper Hoop Earrings in Gold ($9). I had a chance to don both at a local event and received a plethora of compliments! Lucky you, you have a chance to order the same platform sandals by May 22nd. However, the the earrings are currently sold out! I also love the other shoes by Enigma such as the Pumps ($31), Peep Toe Stilettos ($27), and their Wedge Sandals ($44). I never heard of this brand prior to my shopping experience with Modnique, but I will definitely order more from this line in the future!

P.Luca 4 Barami Review

Saturday, May 14, 2011

Since 1980, Barami has been a fixture on the New York fashion scene, bringing professional women the quality, affordable, fashion-conscious and versatile clothing they need to move easily from a day in the office to an evening out. Now, founder of Barami, Bahram Hakakian, and his daughters Neda and Nika, are proud to announce the launch of P.Luca for Barami and the extension of the Barami brand.

At 24, fashion designer Bahram Hakakian opened his first retail location, Barami, with a vision of bringing women high quality, fashionable clothing for an affordable price. His daughters, Neda and Nika grew up loving fashion and began working in the Barami retail locations at age 16. “Fashion has always been our passion and we fantasized about the day we could be like our father. We literally could not wait to start working,” says Neda. They now hold senior management positions within the company – Neda is currently the VP of Merchandising and Nika is the District Manager of the retail locations.

The Little Black Dress ($39) is smart, alluring, and sophisticated. Youthful yet classic, it exposes a hint of skin while remaining demure. The beautiful sequin detail on the side gives it extra flair. I love that I can wear it numerous ways, depending on my mood - alone, with shorts, or my favorite pair of skinny jeans. You can go luxe or casual with it. You're bound to lasso compliments your way!

Nicole Lee USA Review

Nicole Lee, an LA based handbag company, had its first launch in 2004. Since then, the company has quickly emerged into the mainstream gaining never-ending recognition from magazine editor’s to Handbag 101 Pro’s. With unique designs and funky details, Nicole Lee has created a collection that is continuously pushing the envelope when it comes to hot fashion trends. “We believe fashion should be fun and refreshing.

Nicole Lee has an extensive collection of handbags, clutches, wallets, travel goods, and accessories. Many of them are offered in different color variations. Therefore, it was a bit hard to settle for two handbags I wanted to review the most, because I wanted them all! I finally decided on the Pipper in Black ($69) and Deidre in Black ($83). I couldn't be more satisfied with my choices, because they are even more stunning in person. I love oversized handbags, because I am known to take everything but the kitchen sink with me. Therefore, these are the perfect size for me since they're roomy enough to hold all of my essentials.

The Pipper (14.00" HEIGHT 11.00" WIDTH 7.00") is a "washed" satchel that features a unique belt trim that zig zags, double top handle, shoulder strap, zip top closure, wall pocket, and a cell phone pocket. It's available in Black, Yellow, Camel, Orange, and Purple.

The Deidre (LENGTH 17" HEIGHT 13" WIDTH 4") is a punched slouch bag that features a double front bucket belt wrap, three descending zipper and open pockets on both sides, double top handle, wall pocket, and cell phone pocket. This two-tone handbag is available in Red, Black, Blue, and Yellow.
