Get Your Kicks

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

With some serious advancements in recent years, trainers aren’t just for the gym anymore. Official makers of the English rugby kit, Nike – for those of you who’ve been scrummaging against the Six Nations for your guy’s attention in recent weeks – has some incredibly stylish designs this season that will not only lend you some serious sport credibility, but have you running ahead of spring’s hottest trend.

Follow in the Footsteps of the King of Street Style

First on the wish list of any sporty fashionista is, of course, Nike footwear, and in particular Nike Air Max 90s. A favorite of the legendary, late Alexander McQueen – British fashion royalty – these trainers are at the very top of their game. When picking out of pair of 90s, you’ll have a rainbow of color combinations to choose from – they have, after all, been designing these iconic kicks for over 20 years – but for spring/summer 2012, the brighter the better. Throw them on with a pair of skinnies and one of spring’s cropped biker jackets for laid-back super-chic.

Channel the Vintage Vibe

If a vintage approach is more your style, invest in some high top trainers for a full-on blast from the past. Taking the fashion world by storm, high-tops are a huge hit this season, with celebrities such as Nikki Reed being spotted sporting rainbow brights. This summer, add an instant air of casual cool to a dressy mini or playsuit by ditching the heels and stepping out in a pair of Nike Blazers. A sporty twist on the classic plimsoll – with oversized laces and a metallic swoosh – Nike’s Flash Mtr trainers are also a standout style. Channel country club chic with a white pair, or style up black Flashes with a tuxedo jacket for a night out.
